28th April - Paignton Sessions (4 week Course)
Where it all started, this group is the first Drum Devon course and has now been running for more than 5 years. We're a friendly and welcoming bunch. Whether you are an experienced player or completely new to djembe playing, this 4 week course is for you. Each half term we learn a new set of rhythms as well as revisit some of our 'classics'. Learn authentic West African djembe rhythms as well as take the occasional detour to different parts of the world.

29th April - Teignmouth Sessions - Bishopsteignton (4 week course)
Come and join us at our new venue, Bishopsteignton Community Centre. During this 4 week course you will develop your djembe technique and learn authentic West African djembe rhythms. Each term we explore a new set of rhythms making this course accessible for both experienced and brand new players. 1st May - Teignbridge Samba, Newton Abbot - (4 week course)
In 2024/early 2025 we were really lucky to be able to establish Teignbridge Samba with the Support of the Teignbridge Arts Project, Teignbridge District Council and Daisi. The group is flourishing playing a mixture of Brazilian Samba Reggae and interpretations of traditional West African Rhythms. Now is your chance to get involved and be part of something AMAZING!

10th May - Djembe Drumming Workshop, Bridport Youth and Community Centre
The last 3 sessions at the Bridport Youth and Communuty Centre have been absolutely fantastic and I am really looking forward to returning to play some more uplifting West African Djembe rhythms. Learn technique, polyrhythms and breaks. We'll bring them all together to create one almighty, harmonious sound together. Come along and have a blast. No experience necessary, good times guaranteed. 10th May - Afro-Cuban Drumming at the BSharp Busking Festival
Experience the heartbeat of Afro-Cuban drumming in this immersive workshop, where we explore the deep West African roots of these powerful rhythms. Led by experienced facilitator James Carr. You'll learn traditional techniques, connect with the essence and feel of the beats, and immerse yourself in a rich rhythmic tradition that has journeyed across oceans and generations.
No experience needed—just bring your energy, a love for rhythm and be prepared to discover your Latin fire!
This event is being offered FREE as Part of the B Sharp Busking Festival 2025.

11th May - Ocean City Running Festival, Plymouth
Our Drum Devon performance group are super-excited to be returning to the Ocean City Running Festival in Plymouth this year to spur on the runners as they take on the challenge of a lifetime. We absolutely love bringing our beats to generate a lively, celebratory atmosphere. Last year was awesome and so inspiring to see so many people take part!
3rd & 4th May - Brixham Pirate Festival
Arrggh! We be back at the incredibkle Brixham Priate Festival. Come and join the parade! We'll have our awesome pirate-clad Drum Devon marching band all out bringing our beats the the streets of Brixham.
There'll also be a chance for you to play on the Saturday in an open, public workshop.

Ever wanted to learn to play the Djembe drum? Now is your opportunity to discover the wonderful world of West African drumming. The session is hosted by James Carr who has over 25 years experience playing drums and percussion as well as more than 20 years teaching experience. In the session you will learn to play authentic West African djembe patterns, develop technique and together we will create an almighty sound. The sessions are aimed at adults and are open to all whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced player. All sessions come with access to digital resources and a recording of our final piece. Big beats, Big breaks and lots of laughs. Come and have some fun with us!

Sat, 26th July - Intro to Samba Rhythms, Pavilions Teignmouth
Ever fancied joining a samba band? Come and discover the wonderful world of Brazilian Rhythm. If you enjoy this session, then you could always come and join our Drum Devon marching band! Playing on a range of instruments, including snares, congas, surdos, bells and shakers, we’ll put together an infectious Brazilian carnival groove complete with breaks, intros and improvisation. No experience necessary! Starting from scratch, you will learn basic fundamental techniques which will have you grooving in no time. The previous session was so much fun, by the end we had managed to create a lively marching samba band! All workshops come with access to digital resources and a recording of our final piece. Summer Holiday drumming fun-times for the whole family! Join us for a rhythmic adventure the whole family will love.

Experience the irresistible rhythms of Cuba in this dynamic, interactive workshop! Dive into the vibrant world of Cuban drums and percussion and discover your inner latin fire. We’ll be playing a range of instruments including congas, bass drums, clave and cowbells in order to capture the infectious energy of Cuban rhythm. These sessions are so much fun and accessible to all! With no experience necessary, this workshop will have you grooving in no time.
